Hebrew University
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is a scientific center of international repute, with formal and informal ties extending to and from the worldwide scientific and academic community. As the main intellectual and scientific center of Israel and the City of Jerusalem, the Hebrew University remains true to the vision of its founders, such as Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud and Martin Buber: to establish and to maintain the highest scientific standard and to be a beacon of tolerance, pluralism and intellectual freedom.
Albert Einstein declared in 1925 on the occasion of the establishment of the Hebrew University:
"A University is a place where the universality of the human spirit manifests itself. … On this occasion of the birth of our University, I should like to express the hope that our University will always preserve the consciousness that they serve their people best when they maintain its union with humanity and with the highest human values. Then our University will develop speedily into a great spiritual center, which will evoke the respect of cultured mankind the world over."
Today, more than 24,000 students of all different ethnic and religious backgrounds are enrolled at the Hebrew University. The Hebrew University's researchers play an outstanding role in the international arena of scientific work: Be it in the realm of cancer research, brain research, computer science, nanoscience, astrophysics or the development of alternative sources of energy - the Hebrew University makes a vast contribution to the scientific achievements of mankind and the development of a better quality of life for all.
